In November 2011 Table Mountain was named as one of the new 7 Wonders of Nature. Over 100 million votes were cast and Cape Town’s most popular attraction made it into the top 7, competing against 28 other locations from around the world.

The best time to visit Table Mountain is during Cape Town’s summer months from October to March. Depending on your planned activities, getting there first thing in the morning is recommended. However, if you’re heading to the cable car you might need to consider arriving just after lunchtime when things start to quiet down.
How did Table Mountain get its name?
If you’ve ever seen Table Mountain you would have noticed its flat table top. In 1652 the Dutch settlers gave this popular landmark the name of “Tafelberg” which means Table Mountain.
It wasn’t always known as Table Mountain. The indigenous Khoisan people referred to it as the “Mountain of the Sea”.
