Table Mountain Cable Car Birthday Special
Did you know that during your birthday month, you get a free ticket to the Table Mountain Cable Car? That’s right! If you’re a South African citizen, you can enjoy the breathtaking views from the cable car for free during your birthday month with this Table Mountain Cable Car Birthday Special.
Please note the following:
- This special only applies to South African citizens
- You have to present a valid South African ID or Driver’s Licence at the Cableway to claim your ticket
- If your birthday is in May, for example, you can collect your free ticket any day during the month of May
- If you are under the age of 18, Mom or Dad needs to be present when you collect your free ticket and they need to present your valid birth certificate
- You can collect your free ticket from the Visitor Information Centre or Ticket Office
Table Mountain Operating Hours
The cableway opens at 08:30 in the morning, and mornings are usually the busiest time of the day. The last car up is at 18:00 and the last car down is at 19:00, so plan your activities accordingly.
TIP: It is recommended that you arrive in the afternoon just after 13:00. It is less busy and ticket prices are also a bit cheaper then.

Cape Town’s summer months are from October to March. During these months the weather is usually ideal for a ride in the cable car, but please note that it is always a good idea to check the weather before you book a ticket.
The cableway will be closed when the weather conditions are not ideal. If this happens, there are lots of other activities you can take part in, including tandem paragliding and a safari.

What to expect

You are in for a treat! Even if this is not your first time in the cable car. The ride to the top lasts around 5 minutes, and during this time you will be treated to breathtaking views of Cape Town and the surrounding areas. The floor of the cable car rotates slowly, so no matter where in the cable car you are, you will get a chance to see everything.
The best is yet to come. Once you reach the top you will be 3 563 feet above sea level. You will also be in awe of the breathtaking views.
There is no doubt that you will spend a while taking in the view from the top, but if you are a keen explorer you can take part in the free guided tours conducted by the friendly staff of the Table Mountain Aerial Cableway.
You can also grab a bite to eat at the Table Mountain Café, or do some work at the Wi-Fi Lounge. Finally, you can shop around for memorabilia at the Shop at the Top.
